We offer an STD (Sexually Transmitted Diseases) Package that can be used after an at-risk contact or for a general check about sexual health, as some conditions such as chlamydia and gonorrhoea sometimes have no symptoms. Our gynaecologists are trained to approach this area of health with sensitivity and absolute confidentiality. We use the highest quality laboratories to process your tests, so you can be confident about the results. Our gynaecologists can also help you with post-exposure prophylaxis if you are concerned about a recent HIV contact; and are open to discuss matters of general sexual health.
Please read the section about your tests and preparation for them. If you wish to use this Package, simply make an appointment with a Gynaecologist, and request the package at the start of the consultation. For reasons of confidentiality, you do not need to mention this to administrative or reception staff.
ABOUT YOUR STD TESTS
Your consultation and tests will take between 30 and 45 minutes and the results should be available in 3 working days. You will be asked to sign a consent form for the tests. Your results will normally be communicated by telephone unless you have specifically consented to have them sent by e-mail (a method we do not recommend). Please make sure your gynaecologist has a local telephone number to contact you.
The tests set out below are our basic package of tests. Your gynaecologist may in certain circumstances recommend more sophisticated testing which she will discuss this with you and these tests are priced separately.
Both HIV and Syphilis tests may have false negatives and should routinely be repeated at 3 months and 3 weeks respectively. These repeat tests are included in the package price and the request forms will be in the Nursing Office, so you only need to come to the Clinic and inform reception that nurses have papers for you to have a blood test. This repeat testing is your responsibility and AMC takes no liability if you fail to take the repeat tests.
Your tests involve:
- A blood test for HIV, Syphilis and Pregnancy
- A Vaginal Examination with swab(s) for Chlamydia, Gonorrhoea, Mycoplasma, Ureaplasma and Trichomonas
- A Vaginal Swab to test for oncogenic HPV virus
- A PAP Smear if your previous PAP Smear was more than one year ago, or if your Gynaecologist recommends
- A microscopic examination of a swab if your Gynaecologist recommends
